To the Editor:

I would like to thank The Republican-Herald for its excellent article on the wrestling event held at the Veterans Memorial Building on Jan. 11. Orwigsburg needs this building and more affordable events such as the Memorial Showdown.

This was an evening of entertainment that was enjoyed by young and old alike – an opportunity for families to have a night out. What joy to see teens and their younger brothers and sisters cheering and clapping – teens and tots in sync. U-S-A, U-S-A resounded throughout the entire evening.

The people in charge greeted everyone with smiles, as did the folks in the kitchen who served up great snacks. Special arrangements were made for the handicapped and the elderly. Speaking of the elderly, my husband and I fall into that category. So we sat where we could stretch our legs and cheered right along!

The highlight of my night? I got to hug a wrestler – Orwigsburg’s finest and best! Thanks, Gene.
